Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has imposed a curfew on all 23 local government areas in the state.
The governor said that the curfew takes effect as of today, Thursday, April 29, 2021.
Governor Wike made the announcement on a state broadcast Thursday.
The announcement comes two days after the governor imposed a night curfew on all land borders in the state.
The governor said a review of the security situation since the last curfew was imposed shows that security threats still exist.
According to him, “it has become imperative for the state government to take the necessary measures to secure our state and safeguard lives and property.”
Accordingly, the state security council has decided and advised today, after extensive deliberations, that a statewide curfew be imposed on the movements of people and vehicles as part of additional measures to prevent criminals from faceless unleash their deadly acts. “
“Consequently, a night curfew is imposed in all twenty-three local government areas of the state, prohibiting any movement of people or vehicles within or in any part of the state from 10 pm to 6 am as of today 29 of April 2021, until further notice ”. .
The governor explained that the intention behind the curfew is to secure the state and guarantee the protection of lives and property.
He also called for the understanding of state residents while charging them to report any suspicious movements to law enforcement agencies.
